The Pre-Tour Crunch
Over the last few weeks, our rehearsal theater has been a revolving door for our three dance companies and orchestras—one group on stage today, another tomorrow. As we enter the end of November, Shen Yun headquarters are abuzz with activity as we hurriedly make final preparations for World Tour 2011. I feel as if our summer tour has only just concluded as we prepare a whole new set of programs for a whole new season.
Our wardrobe department has been working day and night to get our hundreds of sets of costumes done on time. It seems almost magical how quickly the costume racks fill up on a daily basis with entire sets of freshly made costumes.
While my fellow dancers and I have been rehearsing late into the night, doing our part by bringing the show to life, the composers and choreographers have also been meticulously making final touches and tweaks to our show’s music and programs. There’s a Chinese expression: “To paint a dragon and dot in the eyes”—adding that little last touch that all of a sudden brings something to life.
The beginning of the holiday season is also our season of anticipation and excitement. After all the hard work and time, we’re eager to be so close to kicking off the new tour. We can’t wait to see the smiles on the audience’s faces.
To all of our audiences around the world, we’ll see you very soon!
